Edexcel Diploma in Management Studies (DMS)
The Professional Diploma in Management Studies is an economical way of of earning an MBA. Learners may complete the programme in as little as six months or may wish to complete over a longer period – maximum two years. The table below indicates the possible pathways your staff can take in order to progress to an MBA. The DMS is a recognised postgraduate business qualification in Britain and is accepted as a route to an MBA in the UK, in some cases exemption from the first year.

Aims of the Programme
The programme will:
- Facilitate experiential learning
- enable participants to become more effective in their management roles;
- provide participants with the knowledge and understanding which underpins middle/senior managerial functions;
- enable participants to develop and apply higher order management skills
- encourage participants to take responsibility for their own development
- enable participants to explore their management potential
- provide progression opportunities to more advanced programmes including MBA
Modes of delivery
- The open programme - participants attend a programme with managers from various other organisations
- The in-house programme - option where all workshops are delivered on site and colleagues can work through the programme together.

Assessment Method
Each module is assessed through an assignment linked to the participant’s own work experience, case studies, exercises and simulations where appropriate.
To obtain a Diploma in Management Studies you must:
- Write 6 assignments
- Write up a learning log and a reflective report at the end.
Tuition and Group Size
We offer Certificate and Diploma level management courses for groups of 10 - 20 people. Tuition depends on group size and location.

The Diploma in Management Studies

Entry qualifications
A degree, HND/HNC or equivalent professional qualification. Exceptionally, mature students with good relevant experience may be granted concessional entry.
Managing Operations
Description of unit
This unit enables students to gain knowledge of the strategic planning and control of the operations of the organisation. Students will develop understanding of the design of systems and processes and how they can be monitored and improved. They will learn how change can be implemented within the organisation.
Managing Finance
Description of unit
This unit provides students with a thorough understanding of the use of financial techniques for strategic planning, decision-making and control. Students will learn how to obtain appropriate funding, make investment decisions, and control the income and expenditure of the organisation.
Managing Human Resources
Description of unit
This unit develops the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to manage the human resources of the organisation at a tactical level. Students will learn about the development of internal culture, structure and Human resources systems.
Marketing Management
Description of unit
This unit encourages students to develop analytical marketing skills whilst providing them with the knowledge and ability to influence and implement a marketing strategy, to fulfill organisational aims and objectives. The unit introduces the idea of the marketing concepts and the need for a corporate approach to marketing. It then focuses on the essence of strategic planning and finally evaluation of the marketing plan in terms of achieving corporate aims.
Strategic Management
Description of unit
This unit is designed to introduce learners to strategic management and to develop their knowledge and understanding of the nature, scope, principles and processes of strategy. The unit covers the formulation, implementation and control of strategy as carried out by the senior management and functional management of an organisation, within its internal and external environments. Learners will investigate and evaluate the development and practice of a real-life strategy.
Management Report
Description of unit
This unit provides an opportunity to integrate learning from all units within the DMS programme. It also provides an opportunity to show the application of knowledge and understanding to a real problem, thereby facilitating the inter-relationship between theory and practice. Students are expected to a present a substantial management report equivalent to a written project of 10,000 words.
