The Caribbean Polytechnic Institute (CAPTECH) was established as a multidisciplinary institution by Sustainable Alternatives Limited (SAL) in 2003.  SAL was established in 1999 was engaged in the development of training programmes and has delivered these programmes to a wide range of clients in corporate industries. SAL’s success in teaching and training, has led the company to expand its potential in this area by establishing CAPTECH as its training arm. 

While SAL catered to corporate companies only, CAPTECH caters to a wider range of adult interests at the post secondary level.  The institution offers vocational skills training, professional development courses, diplomas/associate degrees and post graduate diplomas.  

RECOGNITION

SAL has fostered successful collaborations with government agencies such as The Food Storage and Prevention of Infestation Divisions, The College of Agriculture Science and Education (Faculty of Science), The Bureau of Standards and The National Council on Technical Vocational and Educational Training (NCTVET).  The solid groundwork laid by SAL in developing successful partnerships has contributed to the Caribbean Polytechnic Institute’s progress in gaining international recognition from Edexcel, the Cambridge International Examinations and City and Guilds - major examination bodies located in the United Kingdom.  CAPTECH is also an agent for BSI Management Systems/BSI Americas offering training in Various ISO certification programmes.

The institution has been entered in the register of Independent Schools at volume 02 Folio 266, in accordance with the Education Act, 1965, Part IV, Section 25 (2) (7a) and the Independent Schools Regulation 1973, Part 1(2).

ABOUT OUR PROGRAMMES

CAPTECH delivers both academic and competency based/vocational programmes.  A very high level of interest from both employers and staff over a wide range of industries makes it clear that competency based qualifications are finally gaining the respect that they deserve.

While academic programmes focuses on knowledge passed on in the classroom and assessed by written or oral examination, the competencies (skills) of a worker is tested against standards for that area of work in the workplace.  Competency based programmes offer a chance to build and develop skills gained in the workplace to gain recognized qualifications.  CAPECH offers the Cambridge International Examinations, City and Guilds, Edexcel BTECs and BTEC NVQs are a combination of academic and vocational programmes respectively.
